Murals and Trompe L’Oeil

After our initial conversation, arrangements can be made to come and view the room or area where the mural is to be painted. Following our discussion of your ideas and plans I would sketch out a few designs for your approval along with my quote for the cost and once approved arrange a convenient date and time for work to begin.

If the room is for a child I find it often helps to involve them with some input as every child has their own favourite colour/cartoon character/ programme or book and by working together I can incorporate various ideas and elements to satisfy everyone.

I do not charge extra for materials, initial sketches or travelling expenses if local. The prices quoted are all inclusive.

Completion times depend on the design and complexity of the commissioned mural. Approximately, a small mural with little detail could take a few days. A more detailed mural covering one wall could take up to two weeks, a completely themed room could take between four to six weeks.

If you are working to a specific budget just let me know, and I can produce a design that combines the detail required at an agreeable price.

I ask for a 25% deposit before work begins, to cover expenses for materials, and this deposit will be deducted from the total cost.

Trompe L’Oeil

Pronounced Tromp loy (a French term meaning ‘deceive the eye’)

Trompe l’oeil is used to describe a painting that has been made with the intention of tricking viewers into believing, however briefly, that they are faced with a real object rather than a two-dimensional image.

I use non-toxic artists quality acrylic paints, built up gradually in many layers to achieve a rich depth of colour which is necessary to create the realism in order for the illusion to be convincing. Acrylics are extremely versatile and can be mixed with emulsion paints as both are water soluble, durable and quick to dry.
